Certified SIIMDA Soul Care Minister

Entering into another person’s pain and suffering is a sacred space and should not be attempted without care, awareness, and ability. Untrained persons often unintentionally exacerbate an individual’s pain or cause further harm by reinforcing trauma. What is more damaging, is an uninformed caregiver can detrimentally pair spiritual language with trauma, which creates harm to one’s relationship with God. Therefore, SIIMDA Soul Care Certification program equips participants with the necessary abilities to work effectively to create safe healing spaces that fosters health and growth through a trauma-informed lens.

SIIMDA Soul Care Spiritual Companion

A SIIMDA Soul Care Spiritual Companion is trauma-informed and acknowledges the complexity of the impact that unaddressed wounds and trauma have on individuals psychologically, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. A SIIMDA Soul Care Spiritual Companion compassionately and empathetically understands and holds space for all aspects of personhood in a safe environment that nurtures an individual to heal as they navigate the path to restoration. This training equips caring persons to be a spiritual companion with the necessary abilities to walk alongside those hurting in a manner that offers hope for a future marked by restoration and wholeness.

Trauma-Informed Ministry

The trauma-informed ministry training goes beyond traditional notions of pastoral care by acknowledging that many individuals, both within and outside of the congregation, have experienced various forms of trauma. This training equips clergy, pastors, elders, lay-leaders, group facilitators and others in ministry leadership positions with the SIIMDA Soul Care approach educating about the causes and effects of trauma, equipping them with the tools to compassionately respond, and integrate trauma-informed practices into all aspects of ministry. By embracing trauma-informed ministry, communities can foster understanding, promote healing, and offer a supportive space where individuals can find solace and restoration on their path towards recovery and deepen one’s experience God.
